Riverford Wicked Leeks

the springs have sprung

The farm is awash with springs breaking out where I have never seen them before. With sodden fields and no sign of a break in the weather we are starting to get nervous about our early plantings of lettuce, cabbage, potatoes and carrots as well as the rhubarb; they should all be in the ground by now. The soil is warm and the first plants are ready to leave the protection of the greenhouse and start life in the field but it will take several days of dry weather before our soil becomes friable, allowing us to make a seed bed and travel without causing damage to the soil
