Our pick for your festive red. Powerfully fruity, with cherry and raspberry, yet well-balanced and smooth.

2016 was Domaine Begude’s best vintage yet for pinot noir, handpicked from the best vineyards. Cherry and raspberry fruit on the nose, finely grained texture on the palate, and a smooth mouthfeel to finish. Powerful fruit which balances well with the body. More weighty than previous vintages, with lots of potential for aging. Lovely now, but will improve for several years. A very happy match for a Christmas roast.

About Domaine Begude

British couple, Catherine and James Kinglake, bought Domaine Begude in 2003 and employ a knowledgeable French-Australian wine making team. The estate is nestled at 300m altitude in the foothills of the Pyrenees, in Limoux in the south of France: 11300 refers to the estate’s postcode. Hot sunny days, cool nights, clay-limestone soil and a unique fermentation process (during which 15% of the wine is fermented in barrels and 85% in stainless steel tanks), all contribute to give this wine its wonderful, subtle balance.
