How to store kumquats
Kumquats can be kept in a cool room or the fridge for at least a week.
How to cook kumquats
All parts of a kumquat are edible raw, but remove the seeds if you find them too bitter. Create a sharp sauce to pair with richly flavoured meats such as lamb or duck – or, for dessert, cook down with sugar and spices to make a kumquat compote (try saying that three times fast!).
These are oval-shaped Nagami kumquats – the most commonly grown variety.
These organic kumquats are grown in Malaga, Spain, by Enrique Vallejo and his son Juan. A few of us recently went over to Spain to meet Enrique and Juan, as well as other Spanish growers old and new – read all about it on our blog.
Enrique and Juan work with ProNatura: a French company that coordinates production and provides support for hundreds of small-scale, organic, Fairtrade farmers in countries all over the world. We’re fans.
