Though related to onions, shallots are milder, sweeter and ideal in salads, dressings, roasts and stews.

Shallots are a different species to onions (we are not trying to palm off undersized onions!) and require considerably more effort to grow and dry.


Roast them whole with other vegetables to accompany a roast, or throw them into casseroles and stews storage Keep cool on a veg rack.

In southern parts of India, shallots are often used in curries and in Iran, crushed shallots are eaten in yogurt.
