riverford carrots

This week sees the first of the new season Riverford carrots back in the small and mini boxes, they will be in all the boxes during the next couple of weeks. Riverford works very hard with Andy Hayllor, one of our co-op members, to ensure that they are planted as early as possible. This crop, a variety called Junior were drilled on the first dry day in February and will now be drilled every eight to nine weeks ensuring a supply until August, when we will move onto different varieties. Junior carrots are grown for their sweetness and are also fairly fast growing. Riverford carrots will be bunched until November for freshness and to reduce packaging, they do have a shorter shelf life that supermarket carrots but if you remove the tops and keep them in a sealed plastic bag in the fridge then they will last for 1-2 weeks.
