Refer a Friend
Help us plant trees, and help your friends revolutionise the way they cook and eat
Refer a friend to Riverford, and we’ll give you each £15 if they become a customer, as a little thank-you. For every one of your friends who joins us, we'll also plant a native tree on our organic farmland!
Plus, if you refer three or more friends by January 31st 2022, we'll enter you into our prize draw to win an all-expenses-paid trip to Devon, to see our trees for yourself.

Planting a tree for your friend
This opportunity is supporting our new agroforestry project. For every friend who joins Riverford, we’ll plant a walnut tree – either on our own Devon farm, or the farms of our friends in the South Devon Organic Producers cooperative.
Agroforestry – that’s planting trees around or among crops or livestock – has a number of benefits:
- Creating a permaculture system (i.e. managing farmland to recreate flourishing natural ecosystems)
- Sequestering carbon
- Protecting and preserving healthy soils
- Sustainably feeding livestock
- Growing another edible crop - for us, walnuts
This is a really long-term project; we’ll hand plant the trees in November-March (the best season to get them well established), and look after them carefully. Over its lifetime, your friend’s walnut tree will sequester up to a tonne of carbon!

LOOKING FOR ANSWERS?
Some of our most-asked questions…
How does Refer a Friend work?
Our Refer a Friend scheme is designed to thank our loyal customers for sharing Riverford with their friends and family.
All you need to do is share your unique referral link (found in your account) with someone you think might enjoy our veg. Once they have signed up for regular deliveries using your link, and had their first box delivered, we will add £15 to both your and your friend’s accounts and plant a walnut tree (either on our own Devon farm, or the farms of our friends in the South Devon Organic Producers cooperative).
What does my friend need to order?
Your friend needs to set up a regular order (i.e. delivered weekly or bi weekly), choosing from our range of organic fruit, veg or salad boxes, recipe boxes or meat boxes.
It’s easy to set up. Once they’ve clicked ‘Add’ on the box they want, they’ll be asked to choose how often they want it delivered. Choose ‘Every week’, ‘Every 2 weeks’, ‘Every 3 weeks’ or ‘Every 4 weeks’ to make the order regular; we’ll bring changing seasonal contents every time.
After their first delivery, your friend can easily amend what box they want or how often they receive it.
When will I get my £15 credit?
Once the friend being referred has received their first regular delivery, £15 credit will automatically be added to your Riverford account and theirs. We will also record that a tree needs to be planted next November-March (the best season for getting these walnut trees happily established).
Keep an eye on your emails; we’ll let you know when your credit has been added. Or you can view your account balance at any time in your account.
How do I use my credit?
Once you have the £15 credit on your account, it will automatically go towards the cost of your next order. You don’t need to do anything.
How many friends can I refer?
You can refer as many friends and family you like (with a maximum of ten per month).
How are the trees planted?
The walnut trees will be hand planted by Riverford co-owners on our Devon farm, or by our friends in the South Devon Organic Producers cooperative on their own small-scale organic farms.
This is part of our broader agroforestry project; we’re planting trees amongst some field crops, to sequester carbon, provide sustainable food for livestock, and improve soil health. It will form a permaculture system: a way of managing farmland to recreate flourishing natural ecosystems.
The trees will be carefully looked after by our teams – and over its lifetime, each one will sequester up to a tonne of carbon.
The best season to plant the trees is November-March. If you refer your friend at another time of year, we’ll record that your tree needs to be planted until the right time rolls around.
How does the competition work?
If you successfully refer three or more friends by the 31st January 2022, we'll enter you into our draw to win an all-expenses-paid trip to Devon on the weekend of 5th March. You'll see our walnut trees for yourself, eat at our farm restaurant The Riverford Field Kitchen, and stay at the award-winning eco hotel and pub, The Bull, in nearby Totnes.
