Print Vanilla custard

This easy to make vanilla custard can be poured over traditional sponge puddings, tarts, cakes or ice creams, or layered in a trifle. It's also a sumptuous dessert eaten on its own in a bowl with fresh strawberries or raspberries piled on top.

Ingredients

  • 300ml single cream
  • 1 vanilla pod (seeds only)
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp cornflour

Method

  1. Heat the cream and vanilla gently in a pan.
  2. In a bowl, mix the eggs yolks with the sugar and cornflour.
  3. When the cream comes to the boil, pour over the egg yolk mixture and mix together well.
