Salt & chilli edamame beans

It may seem pointless to season the pods when you don’t eat them, but you want to almost over season them so that your fingertips pick up the salt and chilli and flavour them as you fumble them out of the pods.


  • 400g edamame beans in their pods
  • 1 tsp dried chilli flakes, or more to taste
  • Sea salt

Cooking time: 5 min
  • Step 1

    Put a large pan of generously salted water on to boil. Cut the very end tips of each pod away with a sharp knife (this allows the water to get to the beans more easily).
  • Step 2

    Boil the pods for 4-5 mins, then drain immediately and transfer to a mixing bowl.
  • Step 3

    Sprinkle with sea salt and chilli flakes and serve warm. Pop them out of the pods with you hands and eat them as a snack.
