raise a toast to organic fortnight

Some decades ago, probably over a bottle of domestically brewed super potent elderflower wine, the founders of the modern organic movement decided to launch Organic Week. Throughout the 80s and a lot of the 90s the vast majority of coverage about food and farming focused on the increasing weight of public concern surrounding conventionally produced food and its impact on our health and the environment. By contrast organic farmers saw Organic Week as an opportunity to celebrate our connection to food and the land. As the sales of organic food have grown, so too has Organic Week, being stretched into an Organic Fortnight.

This year Organic Fortnight is also the perfect time for us to reflect on life at River Swale. We launched in January this year, so this is our first harvest under the River Swale flag and I
