About these organic edamame beans

Fresh green edamame beans. We won’t claim they’re a superfood, but they certainly are tasty! Most edamame beans are only available frozen, so this fresh crop is extra special. We usually sell them bunched with their branches, but these are loose, saving you a job in the kitchen.

Edamame are soybeans, picked when they’re young and green. The flavour is reminiscent of peas, with hints of buttery sweetness and nuttiness. They’re a classic snack cooked whole, salted and eaten pod by pod (pulling the inner beans out with your teeth) – especially good with a cold beer.

How to prepare

Edamame beans are mostly available frozen, so this fresh crop is extra special. They must be cooked before eating. Remove the pods from the stalk. Cut the very end tips of each pod away with a sharp knife (this allows the water to get to the beans more easily). Boil the entire pods in salted water for 4-5 mins, then drain and sprinkle with more sea salt. Or you can roast them in their pods; they’ll take 10-15 mins in a hot oven. Pod as you eat; best enjoyed as a snack, but can be added to any number of broths, noodle bowls or salads.

They are best as fresh as possible so put them at the top of your to-do list. Refrigerate in their bag for up to three days.
