Our early plantings of lettuce, cabbage and spinach are all thriving under their crop covers, busily sending out new roots and leaves and soaking up the rays. The covers work particularly well on our early, south facing slopes where, on those bright but cool days, it can feel almost tropical if you crawl under amongst the plants.


I am anticipating a deluge of complaints about the plastic (looking) punnets in some of the boxes this week. They are in fact made from non-GM plant starch and are compostable. Does this make them OK? Probably not. Having bought them, it has prompted us to look into this further and we
