leeks and extreme weather

You may notice in the next few days that the leeks are slightly dirtier than usual and the cuts may not be as neat as you are used to.

Our local grower Duncan Janaway bravely faced the horrendous weather to pick the leeks he had agreed to supply us for the end of the week. Duncan and his staff had to resort to hand picking the leeks; any use of machinery was impossible due to the amounts of rain the local area had received. This must have been an arduous task, but one which resulted in a successful harvest.

Many other suppliers did not brave the weather conditions in order to harvest their produce. We really appreciate the dedication Duncan put in and feel that this week's leeks really embody the Riverford ideals of fresh, local, organic produce.
