Before land can be certified as organic, the Soil Association (our organic certification body), requires the land to go through a two year conversion period. The two year transition of the land from non-organic to organic serves two key purposes; firstly it allows sufficient time for any chemicals previously applied to the land to degrade and secondly, it provides us with the necessary time to improve soil conditions before our first organic crops are sown.
Re-invigorating the soil is absolutely essential if our organic crops are to be a success. We use grass and clover seed mixes as these plants absorb large quantities of nitrogen from the atmosphere and turn it into nitrogen fertiliser for crop growth. The clover leys also
