award success and farewell to the yurt
Well, some things have changed since my last words. The football is over, we’ve had the budget and as I write it is raining (although not enough to stop Nigel having to irrigate). The leeks we have just planted definitely need watering in and quite a few of the other crops could do with a soaking. It has been so dry for so long that it’s hard to remember when it last rained. Some would say it is connected to climate change and that we should be more eco-conscious to try to slow the process down. Which leads me on to the Peterborough Evening Telegraph’s recent Green Awards. We were shortlisted in the Best Sustainable Food Provider category so we got all dressed up for the awards do at the Marriot hotel and anxiously awaited the results. We were absolutely thrilled to discover we had won. The judges commended our commitment to organic and eco-friendly land management, as well as our local growing and minimal packaging policies. It’s really exciting to be recognised for what we do and was a huge boost for the team.
Back at the farm, the flow of visitors has been exceptional during the last few weeks as customers experience our Travelling Field Kitchen restaurant in a yurt. Seeing the yurt erected and getting into service was awesome and the results were definitely worth it. Everyone who has visited seems to have really enjoyed the experience and the food – and I’ve been rather well fed these last couple of weeks. The Travelling Field Kitchen’s next stop is Riverford on Home Farm in North Yorkshire between 5th-15th August, so if you enjoyed your meal and have friends further north, please spread the word.
We are also out and about meeting friends and customers as the summer show season progresses. We will be at the Taste of Summer Festival in Northampton, South Holland Food Festival and the Northampton Food Show. Later in the year we are at Jimmy’s Farm, the Essex County Show and our home village show at Wansford.
