FAQs - meat boxes

Is all the meat organic?

Yes, all our meat is organic, British and certified by the Soil Association.

Where does your meat come from?

All our animals come from small scale approved organic producers in the West Country. They experience some of the highest welfare standards around. The animals are reared traditionally, in free range groups that roam and graze, and reach maturity naturally. The RSPCA and Compassion in World Farming have given us awards for our ethical sourcing. Read more about our farmers.

What are the animals fed?

The animals roam free in fields of lush, nutritious grass, with the fields being rotated regularly to make sure good grass is always available. This means that the animals are reared naturally, as well as growing slowly at a natural rate. It also gives the meat wonderful flavour and tenderness. During the winter months, when the grass stops growing, they are fed on silage that the farms produce themselves, sometimes supplemented with organic grain.

How is the meat packaged?

We deliver your meat in insulated packaging that keeps it cool on your doorstep. It includes sheep’s wool insulation, ice packs and a cardboard box. We can reuse all these, keeping our carbon footprint and costs down.

What packaging can be recycled/given back?

We can reuse the sheep’s wool insulation, ice packs and cardboard box to keep our carbon footprint and costs down. Please leave these out for us to collect and reuse.

How long will it stay chilled?

Your meat will stay chilled in its special packaging for up to 10 hours, but you should unpack it into the fridge as soon as possible. We also recommend that you freeze any meat you won’t be eating within a couple of days, especially mince, sausages and burgers. It keeps its flavour and tenderness very well.

How long is the shelf life?

This depends on the product and how we have packaged it. Everything comes labelled with a use-by date for you to follow. We also recommend that you freeze any meat you won’t be eating within a couple of days, especially mince, sausages and burgers. It keeps its flavour and tenderness very well.

Can I freeze the meat?

Yes, it freezes very well, keeping its flavour and tenderness. Our meat boxes are a great value way of stocking up your freezer with organic meat. Once frozen, eat within three months, defrosting in the fridge for 24 hours.
