a plea for settled weather

With our soils reassuringly moist and most of the early crops in the ground, the rains have been timely and appreciated, but with the first of our strawberries now ripening we need a more settled spell. Lower than average temperatures have meant that most crops are running a week or two late, resulting in far more imports in the boxes than we would like. A combination of a strong Euro, spiraling fuel costs and blockading French fishermen have made for a painful and trying few weeks and we are impatient for our own crops.
